My fiancé and I have been dating since about August 2010. We have been through a lot together, but have also been there for each other every step of the way. I wish it wasn’t true but Jeremy has always seemed to be accident prone. Before we met he had two broken hands at the same time, while we were dating he fractured his vertebrate in a car accident, and of course our trip to Hawaii couldn’t be any different. Jeremy’s best friend Tyler and his wife live in Hawaii for part of the year and Ocean City, MD the rest. In February 2015 they invited a large group of us to Hawaii to visit them. I was so excited because I had never been and we were able to go with some great friends. We had been there for about 6 days when Jeremy went for a dirt bike ride up the mountains of Hawaii with his best friend Tyler. Unfortunately we he came back from the bike ride, he came back injured (ended up being a torn ACL and fractured tibia). We spent most of the next morning in the ER in Hawaii (not exactly what we had planned) but some things you just can’t control. The doctor gave him a knee brace and crutches and we headed on our way. That afternoon I could tell that Jeremy was pretty bummed because it was gorgeous weather out, we were in Hawaii, and he was stuck on crutches. Later that day he looked at me and said that he was going stir crazy and just had to get out of the house. His friend Tyler said that we could take his 4-wheeler for a ride down the beach. I was skeptical because I had no idea how he would be able to drive it, but he said it was hand operated except for one pedal which used his good leg. I felt really bad for him, so I went along and held on tight to the back of the 4-wheeler, and his crutches. We stopped along the beach a couple of times to look at sea glass and just enjoy the gorgeous view of the north shore. As we went further down the beach, I saw a man in the trees. Jeremy said that it was probably just nothing. Then I saw that he was staring at us more and I started to get worried. As I was staring harder and harder, Jeremy stopped the 4-wheeler and by the time I looked away from the trees and back to Jeremy, he had already hobbled off the 4-wheeler and down on one knee (even with a knee brace). At this time the guy from the trees (his best friend) and three of his other guy friends all jumped out of the trees and started taking pictures of us. This is when Jeremy, teary eyed as ever, asked me to marry him. I think I was more in shock than anything else. Apparently everyone was in on it and they were worried that Jeremy wasn’t going to make it work because of his injury, since the original plan was for use to walk down the beach, but they all worked together and made it the most memorable moment of my life…. and that wasn’t all of it. They also set up a small table with chairs right on the beach for us with a bottle of champagne. Jeremy even got the ring engraved with a Hawaiian saying– “kauakau” which means season after season or forever and ever. They had set up the most amazing setting where we were able to just take it all in and enjoy each other. This was definitely the happiest moment of my life and truly showed me what love and friendship is all about. I cannot wait to start the rest of my life with this man and am so happy to have his amazing friends in my life.
